3 Housing Headlines Agents Need to Watch This Week

First, the House passed the Affordable HOMES Act with bipartisan support. The bill restores HUD's authority over manufactured housing energy standards and repeals a pending Department of Energy rule. Supporters say this will help keep manufactured homes — a key source of affordable housing — within reach for more buyers. It now moves to the Senate.
Second, FHFA Director Bill Pulte is warning homebuilders about their stock buybacks. He says they're making record profits while keeping home prices high — and hinted that access to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac funding could be on the line.
Third, we just hit a turning point: More American homeowners now have mortgage rates above 6% than below 3%. That means the "lock-in effect" that's been freezing inventory is finally starting to weaken. We could see more homes come on the market soon.
